Madrid CC to host T20 tournament in Alcorcón
Madrid Cricket Club has announced it will host a four-team Twenty20 tournament at its home ground in Alcorcón next month.
The 1st European Vibe T20 Development Tournament will be held at the Universidad Rey Juan Carlos campus in Alcorcón over four days. The participating teams are Madrid CC 2nd XI, Triskel Taverners CC, Variant CC and Madrid United 2nd XI.
Semi-finals will take place on Saturday March 10th and Sunday March 11th. The 3rd-4th place match will be on Saturday March 24th and the final is on Sunday March 25th. All matches start at 10:30am.
According to organiser David Stirton, captain of the Madrid CC 2nd XI, the tournament will benefit all the teams in different ways: “For us, it will be a great chance for us to see the Madrid CC second team players in action and give them some competitive cricket before our league season starts. The Vice-Captain Lewis Clarke and I will be watching the guys in action, and it’s also a good opportunity to see how the many new players we have this year perform.”
“Triskel Taverners CC and Variant CC will get the chance to play in a competition for the first time. They aren’t part of the national league set-up yet, and it’s important to ensure they play as many games as possible. For Madrid United CC, it’s a chance to field a second eleven for the very first time – they have enough players and want to enter their seconds in the Spanish National Cricket League, but the problem is the travel to the coast and the costs involved.”

Madrid CC albergará un torneo de cricket T20 en Alcorcón
El Madrid Club de Cricket organizará un torneo de cricket T20 en su campo en Alcorcón el mes que viene. Participarán cuatro equipos locales en el torneo.
El I Torneo de Desarrollo European Vibe de Cricket T20 se disputará en el campus de la Universidad Rey Juan Carlos en cuatro jornadas. Participarán el segundo equipo del Madrid CC, Triskel Taverners CC, Variant CC y el segundo equipo del Madrid United CC.
Las semifinales se jugarán el sábado 10 de marzo y el domingo 11 de marzo, el partido para el tercer y cuarto puesto se disputará en sábado 24 de marzo, y la gran final tendrá lugar el domingo 25 de marzo. Todos los partidos comenzarán a las 10:30 horas.
Según el organizador del torneo, David Stirton, capitán del segundo equipo del Madrid CC, el torneo beneficiará a todos los equipos por distintos motivos: “Para nosotros, supone una oportunidad idónea para ver jugar a los chicos del segundo equipo y ofrecerles partidos de competición antes del comienzo de la liga nacional. Lewis Clarke, el Vice-capitán del equipo, y yo observaremos a los chicos, y será un buen momento de evaluar el rendimiento de los muchos jugadores nuevos que se han unido al club esta año.”
“Triskel Taverners CC y Variant CC tendrán la oportunidad de participar en un torneo por primera vez. No juegan en la liga nacional, y es importante brindarles la oportunidad de jugar el mayor número de partidos posible. Para el Madrid United CC, por primera vez podrá poner en liza su segundo equipo – el club tiene jugadores suficientes y quiere que su segundo equipo participe en la Liga Española de Cricket, pero el problema es tener que viajar para hacerlo y los gastos que su participación acarrea.”
“Nos alegra muchísimo poder albergar el torneo. Estamos todos deseando que comience, y estamos convencidos de que servirá para impulsar el crecimiento y desarrollo del deporte en la capital”, añade.
