Another Madrid derby, this time between the Madrid Stars and Madrid, went the way of the Stars this afternoon at Sonseca.

Madrid won the toss and elected to bat and struggled to 28 for 2 in the opening period of play. Adam Langhans (41) and Ollie Wrighton (19) took the score to 61 before another couple of wickets fell in quick succession. Late runs by Balani and Ted Miller, who both scored 23, took the final score in Madrid’s innings to 157 all out.

For Madrid Stars the opening left arm pace bowler Ali Cheema took three for 32 and Rana Kaschif also chipped in with three wickets for his team.

In reply the Stars were indebted to a fine 85 not out from opener M. Qadir Khan. Follow opener Shahid only made eight, but Hamayun, batting at three added 25 in a 33 run partnership. An unbeaten fifth wicket stance between Qadir Khan and Muneeb (14 not out) saw the Stars home with the minimum of fuss.

Madrid Stars (20 points) beat Madrid (4 points) by six wickets.
