MADRID II VICTORY DENIES LA MANGA II THE LEAGUE TITLE

Madrid II won a nailbiting encounter against La Manga II last weekend and in the process denied the La Manga based club the Division Two title as Torrevieja overtook them at the top of the table with their win over Intellectuals at Bonalba on the same day.

Batting first after winning the toss La Manga II could only manage a sub-par total of 121 all out with only two of their batsmen posting double figures. All six of the Madrid bowlers took at least one wicket in a great all round fielding and bowling performance.

In reply, Madrid II were reeling at 10 for 5 but not for the first time this season their middle order came to the rescue. Sengupta, Rao and Hossain all had credible scores as the team from the capital redressed the balance to turn the game Madrid’s way.

Hossain saw the game through to a finish for Madrid with his 41 not out, ensuring his team ended the season on a high with a three wicket victory, and consequently deny La Manga II the title.

La Manga once again were deducted ten points for rule infringements. The final game of the league is a re-arranged fixture between La Manga Kings and Intellectuals the first weekend in October.
