Madrid II CC are tantalisingly close to winning the Madrid Regional League after taking maximum points of Sonseca in the latest contest at the ground based in the province of Toledo.

Batting first, Sonseca, who have struggled to get eleven players in recent matches, posted a score of just 83 runs.

Madrid II responded in clinical fashion and won the game with nine wickets in hand. It was a special day for Madrid II stalwart David Stirton, who hit 50 not out on his fiftieth appearance for the oldest club in the capital.

That sets the league up nicely for a grand finale, with Madrid II playing Madrid United in the final league match of the season. United not only have to win the game but they also have to win a spread of 17 points or greater to snatch the title away from their arch rivals. The decider takes place next Saturday at Sonseca – free entry, all spectators welcome.

Madrid (20 points) beat Sonseca (1 point) by nine wickets.
