Madrid CC II managed to reverse the result of the previous day, by winning through in what proved to be another competitive match against Sporting Alfás II.
Once again, Alfás won the toss and put the visitors into bat. The opening bowlers produced a tight spell, with Brown making the breakthrough by removing Bancroft following a terrific one-handed diving catch by Marriner.
Awan (57) and Kumar (25) then steadily moved the score on to 70, before M. Perman (4-23) managed to remove the middle order. Hossain (39) injected some pace into the innings, before Ashraf (4-48) helped restrict Madrid’s total to 160-9 off 45 overs.
Like the previous day, Madrid’s bowlers restricted scoring opportunities in the early stages of the Alfás response. However, this time they were also able to make inroads, removing both opening batsmen cheaply.
Wajeed (27), Brown (19) and Evans (23) kept Alfás in the hunt, and the match was evenly balanced until the regular fall of wickets eventually left the Alfás tail with too much to do. They battled through to 138 in the 37th over before the final wicket fell, including a brave return to the crease by Nix after being hit the previous day.
Pick of the Madrid bowlers was Awan, who ended his unchanged 18 over spell with figures of 6-43.
Madrid took 24 points and Alfás 6.
