Key members of Madrid Cricket Club are in Poland and to take cricket to take cricket equipment to Ukranian and Polish orphans. Thanks again to the European Cricket Network for sponsoring the flights and allowing the club to use the money raised for more equipment.
70kgs of equipment were loaded onto the plane, as well as nearly 20 bats and batting cones that have been sent directly from the Grizzlybear Sports base in NI to Lodz.
Saturday was a great day for Madrid CC as 4 MCC members taught cricket to Ukranian and Polish orphans in the beautiful city of Lodz, Poland. Armed with 20 bats bought from Grizzlybear Sports and 12 bats from the ICC, as well as 300 balls donated by the people of Rivas Vaciamadrid, we spent the whole day in the company of the great team from Fundacja Happy Kids (Poland) who were busy facepainting and braiding.
The workers and volunteers of Happy Kids had prepared a great array of activities for the children including bouncy castles, soft play adventure buses, mega lego play area and a tombola. The day kicked off with a cricket demonstration with the mayor of Lodz and the founder and president of Happy Kids. The rest of the day was full on with non stop cricket taking over the basketball and football areas of the park.
Jon Woodward, President of Madrid CC, said “After a long setback from fund raising efforts due to COVID, we have been able to reinstate our annual charity tournaments in Albir, Alicante and in Elipa, Madrid.
The money raised this year saw us send 1000€ to The Alsama Project in Lebanon and another 1000€ to Fundacja Happy Kids in Poland. As well as this, we were delighted to be welcomed to Lodz in Poland to undertake two days of cricket activities with up to 1500 Ukranian and Polish orphans, where we will leave a large number of bats and approximately 350 balls for them to use at their leisure. The experience so far has been fantastic and we are eager to continue tomorrow”
