The Madrid second team had a productive weekend on the coast notching up a win against Torrevieja and securing a draw against last years champions Sporting Alfas.
First up was Torrevieja and the Madrid bowling attack pulled out all the stops to bowl out the home side for just 100. Manny Fernandez was the pick of the bowlers taking four wickets for the visitors.
Madrid’s batting was rusty however and they made hard work of chasing down the low total, finally overcoming the Torrevieja score with three wickets to spare.
The following day Madrid headed up the coast to take on Sporting Alfas.
Madrid batted first and frustrated the home side who struggled to take wickets at regular intervals. Madrid finally declared on 244 for 9, with Manny Fernandez this time producing with the bat. The former Spanish international scored 108 before getting run out.
In reply Alfas scored 103 for 2 as the game petered out to a draw. 10 points to Madrid and 11 points to Alfas. Next weekend Intellectuals open their campaign with an away fixture at La Manga.
