Madrid United returned to the VCG yesterday for a league confrontation with Levante and put in a strong performance to emerge victorious by five wickets.
Winning the toss the visitors invited the hosts to bat and a fiery spell of opening bowling from Toqueer ensured runs were hard to come by. The first wicket fell with the score on 18 when Tony Little was clean bowled by the former Slough Town player for three.
Damian Garvey and Scott Burchell put on 50 for the second wicket but then Garvey and Levante captain both fell in the sixteenth over to put Levante on the back foot. From that point wickets fell at regular intervals as the home side were reduced to 142 all out by the 29th over.
Opener bowler finished with four wickets for 12 but this was surpassed by Jamil who bagged five wickets for 39 runs in his eight over spell.
Levante started well in the field, having Madrid United struggling at 7 for 2 at one stage. Ankush (28) Sagar (15) and Apur (25) all made telling contributions for the visitors but it was Jimmy Ashraf that saw his side home with an unbeaten 41 and with five wickets in hand.
Madrid United 146 for 5 (19 points) beat Levante 142 all out (4 points) by 5 wickets.
