Thanks to Sporting Alfas CC for the match report ….
Sporting Alfas Cricket Club Sporting Alfas 2nd X1 140 for 6 lost to Levante C C 152 for 10
Sporting Alfas, living up to the sporting in their name took on a Levante CC side, who unfortunately had to play a few first team players as the seconds were on holiday. Levante batting first were soon in trouble with the young Alfas team soon getting into the up side down batting line up and Levante were on the ropes with Waqar claiming 4 early wickets and Perman unlucky not to have claimed 3 more.
The introduction of two more young players altered nothing but the wide column as Anton Bodnarec and Leo Laundon both bowled a mixture of unplayable and wide deliveries, if you take the wides out both bowlers really had the batsmen in trouble has Anton (13 from 3) bowled his overs for 7 runs and Leo (10 from 3) bowled his overs for 5.
The wickets dried up as M Perman and Ali got through 9 overs and 60 runs were added to the score, then normal service was resumed as Marriner (3-26 from 5) tied up one end with his unorthodox Leggie´s and the 2 young Alfas openers returned to take a wicket apiece and close with figures of 7 overs 5 wickets 24 runs for Waqar, and K Perman figures read 6.4 overs, 2 wickets and 17 runs, plus two absolutely fantastic catches by Anton Bodnarec deserve a mention, both in the gully at high speed. Levante all out for a low total of 152, Fareed top scorer with 49.
After a well deserved tea, the Alfas pair of Laundon Snr and Marriner took to the task of reaching a well below par score but even though the score board moved along steadily Marriner played around a straight one from Hoy and lost his middle stump for 4, Jack Perman at 3 tried to take the game to Levante but was well bowled by one that turned, from the visitors best player on the day Fareed. After reaching 49 with the bat he also proved he is no fool with the ball.
Andy Dll in his second ever match came in at four and was not shy about wafting the bat, eventually after reaching a career best of 3 he gave Fagaoga an easy catch at short mid wicket. Leo Laundon batting at five came in and stayed for 24 balls for his 5 runs again trying to take the game to Levante but holing out at short cover.
With 22 overs gone and only 95 on the score board it was time for the older head of Chis Cooper to enter the challenge, unfortunately Cooper was also taken out by the wizardry of Fareed although the catch by Asid was one to write home about. 108 for 5.
K Perman arrived with a lot to do and took the Levante attack on but missed one from Fareed and was bowled. Waqar after his fantastic spell bowling really needed to strike the ball well as 30 runs required from 3 overs after Hoy and Asid bowled out it was left to Tivey to stop SACC reaching the 152 target. With only six from his last over he ensured Levante won the game by 12 runs.
Well done, Levante but beware when you return as the big guns will be in town. Congratulations to the young SACC team for whom the day was yet another lesson in the game we enjoy at the Woodbridge Oval, Albir.
