The Naturally Floors sponsored cricket season continues apace. Matchday 4 saw a cracking game between Wolves CC and Lanzarote CC. Batting first Wolves found themselves in early trouble with the top order falling cheaply to some fine bowling. D. Dadlani shone with the ball for Lanzarote with 5 for 35. Only R. Singh with 54 stood firm but once he was out Wolves looked destined for a small total. However S. Brettell and S. Chhina, both with 44, rescued the innings and helped Wolves to 210 all out.
Lanzarote CC needed a steady innings from their batters. Step forward opener D. Spurr, as wickets fell at the other end and try as they might Wolves just couldn’t get through him and once he was joined by M. Tahiliani, 33 not out, Lanzarote CC reached victory in the 33rd over. A remarkable achievement from Darren, carrying his bat with 60 and being in the field the whole day.
Game 5 saw Lanzarote CC play PDC Cobras. Bowling first Cobras showed their usual bowling excellence taking Lanzarote wickets at regular intervals. Only a stubborn 38 from Opi at the end helped Lanzarote reach 180.
Chasing modest totals had proved difficult for Cobras in the past but this time the outcome never looked in doubt. 51 from Sachin, 47 not out from V. Singh and 38 from M. Evans saw Cobras home in the 34th over for a convincing 7 wicket win.
Matchday 6 saw Wolves CC play St Georges CC. Winning the toss and bowling Wolves started brightly and aggressively. P. Stenson with 2 for 19 and A. Bruintjies with 2 for 9, who sadly retired hurt, were the pick of Wolves bowlers. Only a quickfire 27 from D. Smith and 32 from N. Holmes offered any resistance until a barnstorming 41 from G. Dean batting at 8 helped St Georges to a modest but defendable 193.
Openers N. Holmes and N. French exerted early pressure bowling dot ball after dot ball, both taking two wickets apiece. R. Singh caught at long off in Neill´s last over gave momentum to St Georges. However C. Cook in fine form remained unbeaten. Surviving a hostile spell from D. Smith Wolves lost two batters to G. Dean, the dangerous S. Chhina and M. Powell both excellently caught by N. Stock. Sensing the need to push on now himself Charlie ran at one delivery from R.Shard, missed and was bowled for a superb 81. In his next over Rob bowled a double wicket maiden and when G. Sandho was caught the following over by J. Talbot off Geoff Dean. St Georges had won by 25 runs. Wolves 168 all out. St Georges remain unbeaten.
