GJ ESTATES LANZAROTE CRICKET LEAGUE

The first game of the month was between Khalsa and the LCC, a game with no love lost. The day kicked off with Khalsa being put in to bat. A wild 45 including one 4 and six 6´s from Sukha Singh and a captains knock of 75 including seven 4´s and six 6´s from Ruble Singh rallied a total of 178 for Khalsa being all out in the 25th over. A superb spell of bowling from Kunal Singh saw him achieve figures of 6-29 from 5.2 overs.

In reply, LCC lost a number of early wickets putting pressure on the batting side from the outset. The only real resistance to the bowling strength of Khalsa came from their captain Monish Tahiliani (30) who helped push to a final total of 89 all out in the 21st over.

The second game of the league campaign this month was fought between St Georges and the Cobras. The Cobras won the toss and stuck St Georges in to bat. Darren Hawkins (55) and Adam French (63) put on a partnership of 149 for the second wicket in a total of 178-6 from St Georges 35 overs. A phenomenal spell of bowling from Gill Singh of 3-8 from his allotted 7 overs.

Peter Starmer (3-21 from 7 overs) took a wicket with the first ball of the innings which appeared to set the tone for things to come. Gill Singh (61), full of confidence after his bowling performance appeared at 3 but was the only opposition to the bowling of St Georges crumbling to 111 all out in the 20th over.

The third match of the month was between the Cobras and LCC. LCC were put in to bat lead from the front by opener Rajesh Singh (40). Extras were the second highest scorer with 25 giving the Cobras a total of 106 to chase. Sachin Jaswal with notable figures of 4-24 from 5 overs.

To follow on from his bowling performance, Jaswal (69*) opened the batting and anchored the innings. There were a couple of quickfire cameos around him leading Cobras to finish on 111-5 in 21 overs.

The fourth and final match of the month was the top of the table clash between St Georges and Khalsa. St Georges won the toss and elected to have a field. Besides the falling of a wicket in the first over, there was a steady flurry of runs throughout the Khalsa innings with knocks from Lali Singh (64), Darren Spur (20), David Leibrandt (30*) and Rupon Singh (39*). Khalsa left a decent total of 231 for St Georges to chase.

St Georges struggled to reply with regular wickets falling throughout their innings. David Smith (39) provided some opposition along with Wade Goodlet (21) but ultimately falling short on 127. Khalsa now join St Georges on the top of the table with 30 points a piece.

Due to some events being carried out by the Ayuntamiento at the ground, the final game of the season will be held on July 9th from 10:15 before the Summer break. Please come along to spectate, enjoy the food and drink in the bar and watch the 2017 GJ Estates Lanzarote Cricket League Winners be crowned. The address is the Campo de Futbol, Calle Rompimiento, Puerto del Carmen.

In other news, there will be the annual beach cricket tournament held on Playa Grande in Puerto del Carmen on July 23rd at 11:00. If you are interested in playing (this is very fun, played with a tennis ball and not taken seriously – children are also welcome), please contact us via the FaceBook page (LCA Lanzarote Cricket Association).
