The Seventh Annual International Cricket Tournament in Lanzarote kicked off today with five teams vying for the coverted trophy.
Four teams from the UK have joined a combined Island XI in what should be a closely fought contest between the five teams. Birmingham Nomads and Birkenhead Park are also joined by regulars Woodford Wells, but the most intriguing addition to this years contest is a team of Lanzarote Exiles marshalled by former Lanzarote Cricket Association player and ICC Europe Umpire Craig Trapps.
The first match of this years contest was an all English affair between Birmingham Nomads and former winners Woodford Wells. Wells batted first and scored 180. Nomads looked in with a chance of victory but eventually run out of time and overs to finish on 169 for 7 just 12 runs shy of victory.
Thanks go out to annual sponsors Eliro and the Inn Place and other contributors include GJ Estate Agents. Special thanks also goes to Jack Talbot, for once again organising this social, but competitive, annual event.
In the second game the hosts were matched against Birkenhead Park. LCA won the toss and elected to bowl. The visitors from Merseyside posted a total of 147 for 6 from their 20 overs. The Lanzarote batting proved too strong for the visitors bowling and the hosts finally won the game in the 17th over with seven wickets in hand.
