Lanzarote CC and St George CC played the final game of the league season knowing that a win for Lanzarote would give them the runners-up spot and victory for St George would mean an unbeaten league campaign for the champions.
With a lot to play for Lanzarote batted first and scraped a total of just over 200 from their innings. Their first six batsmen failed to deliver a telling score and it was left to Andy French (53) and Des Smith (also 53) to give the champions a resonable final total. Ruble Singh took three wickets for just 21 runs in an excellent seven over spell that included two maidens.
Lanzarote came out to bat intent on inflicting a first league defeat on St George. They batted with confidence and in Monish and Frankie they found a match-winning sixth wicket partnership that earned Lanzarote second place in the league. Monish, finally ended on 63 not out and Frankie 43 not out as Lanzarote overtook their target with five wickets in hand and eleven overs to spare.
St George were not to downhearted as they will be the team that once again represents Lanzarote to play in the Regional Finals sometime in early November, at a venue to be decided. A full breakdown of the league results and the final table can be found by clicking on the link below..
