La Manga Cricket Club had their first friendly today vs Torrevieja CC at La Manga Club.
After winning the toss La Manga decided to bowl first. After some fine bowling and fielding Torrevieja reached 179 from their 40 overs.
Special mention to David Warwick and Tim Wharton on some very tidy bowling and Tom Vine on a great opening spell which perhaps on another day would have lead to greater rewards. Also a first time behind the stumps for Charlie Hunt led to a sound and wicket taking performance .Youth is the key at La Manga cricket club and that was highlighted today for first time players Ollie House (9) and Pablo Harbour (10) who made their fielding debuts for the club.
La Manga, chasing a good total set by Torrevieja, took to the task with some good confident batting performances. Special mention to Tom Vine ,David Warwick and David Williams who all benefitted from the time the squad has spent in the winter nets.
Batting against a very competent and disciplined Torrevieja bowling attack, unfortunately La Manga came up six runs short of the required total.
So well done to Torrevieja – but the main winner today and was cricket-so well played both teams and all the best for the new season .
