Many of the youngsters that took part in last year’s indoor league were on show in the latest ECCL development match between La Manga and Torrevieja.
The home side batted first but were soon struggling at 19 for 5 as the Torrevieja opening bowlers ripped through the La Manga top order. A sixth wicket partnership between Rupert James (23) and Tim Walton (71 not out) restored some parity and the home side managed to bat out all their overs, finally ending with a total of 127 for 7.
For Torrevieja there were some useful bowling performances from Ciaran Gulchard (3-20) and Hasan Ullah (2-21)
When batting the visitors found scoring runs equally as daunting. They started off well enough with the regular partnership of Gulchard and Kieran Wood putting on 22 for the first wicket. Then followed a flurry of wickets as La Manga looked to close in on victory but the middle order, shepherded by Chris Darwen, clung on for a draw. Torry finally ended on 82 for 8 and gain six points from the contest.
La Manga used eight bowlers in an attempt to break down the visitors stubborn resistance but finally had to settle for a winning draw and 14 points. Tim Walton ended the day with three wickets to complete a great all round performance for the hosts.
La Manga 127 for 8 drew with Torrevieja 82 for 8.
