La Manga seal 3rd place by 6 runs in tight fought match.
La Manga entertained Javea CC in the 3rd/4th place match last weekend, La Manga won the toss and decided to bat first and put some pressure on the Javea bowlers, things didn’t start to well loosing one of the openers in first few overs with total still in single figures.
La Manga kept the scoreboard ticking over with a steady partnership between Reg Goldsmith & Abbas who took the score to 71 before Abbas was out whilst in good form, This brought young Joel Brook to crease at 71 for 3 off 17 overs in a difficult situation, but with a mature innings of 42 from the promising batsmen took the score to 178 with 6 Overs remaining some big hitting by captain George Wambeek took the La Manga score to 202 for 8 at the close.
Javea made a steady start to their innings loosing just 1 wicket in first ten overs with the score on 45, javea continued to bat sensibly but lost key wicket of Faran with the score on 85 and later on the loss of Paul Stansfield with Javea needing 75 off the last 12 overs proved crucial to La Manga victory, with some tense overs at the end Javea just fell short of the total by 6 runs.
A very entertaining game by two closely match sides played in a great spirit, which was seen throughout this year’s league games.
