Match Report
La Manga c.c started their new league season with a seven wicket win over the visiting Madridc.c on Sunday.
Captain Graham won the toss and asked Madrid to bat.
On a not quite perfect day,owing to over night rain and the chance of more rain to follow,Madrid set about the task of compiling a total .The two opening bats got off to a steady start although they had a hand from the La Manga fielders who dropped several catches.
The first wicket to fall was on 34 and the second on 81,shortly after there was a 20 minute delay for rain.
When play was resumed M Akmal led the charge falling to a catch when he was on 84.The La Manga bowlers rallied taking 3 quick wickets leaving Madrid on 169 for 6.The remaining bats got their team up to 231 before losing their final wicket.
The pick of the La Manga bowlers were R.Singh 3 for 37,A.Muhammed 2 for 41 and M.Aslam 2 for 43.
After a short lunch break and with the sun trying to break through the La Manga openers marched out to start their quest of overtaking their opponents total.
The first wicket to fall was that of R.Goldsmith for 30 and the total on 65.Gopi then hit 19 bowled by Fernandez,his second wicket.This brought Matt Sherry to the crease to partner Neil Brook.On the day this turned out to be a strong pairing indeed.They set about the bowling giving very few chances.Madrid changed the bowlers around but to no avail,and after a partnership of 139 Neil was out for 69,
This left Matt and the arrival of new bat Ruble to take La Manga past their total with 2 overs to spare,Matt top scoring with 80 not out.
Fernandez the only wicket taker with figures of 2 for 47.
