La Manga, lasst seasons runners up in the National championships with a convincing victory over Madrid United in the opening premier division game to be played this season at the Murcia based ground.

The hosts won the toss and elected to bat, a decision that was to prove fruitful. Opener Neil Brook should no signs of pre season rustiness as he carried his bat through the entire innings to contribute 87 to the La Manga total. A swashbuckling 84 by Munib Runjah was the other highlight of the innings that finally closed on 238 for 6.

In reply Madrid United did not get off to the best of starts and lost wickets at regular intervals despite most batsmen reaching double figures. Their final score was 114 all out with Farhat Mahmood and Steve Colbourne both taking three wickets each for the hosts.

Four batting and five bowling points, plus ten for victory gave La Manga 19 points, whilst Madrid United had to be content with a single batting and three bowling points in their firat league game this season.
