A depleted La Manga side lost out to Madrid United by four wickets in their first league match of the season. Missing numerous first team regulars the home side elected to bat after winning the toss.
Two teenagers Akash Panchal and Vikash Singh opened the batting but neither managed to get their side off to a good start, both falling cheaply. That set the tone for the rest of the home sides innings and only David Williams showed any kind of early season form.
Batting at three, he scored 89 out of a total of 166 all out, with only two other batsmen reaching double figures. The pick of the bowling for Madrid United was Nazeer who finished with the excellent figures of 5-24 off seven overs.
In reply, Madrid United had reached 33 before they lost their first wicket, and then a mini collapse saw the visitors tottering at 68 for 6. Nazeer completed a fantastic day by coming in at number eight and smashing 72 not out in an unbeaten century partnership with Ashraf (39 not out) to give the victory to United in just 34 overs.
19 points for Madrid United and just 5 points for La Manga. Alcorcon remain top of the league with two wins from two, but pre-season favourites and current league champions Sporting Alfas have yet to start their campaign.
