LA MANGA 2 OPEN WITH A WIN

La Manga 2 opened their league campaign with a comprehensive 132 run victory over the Intellectuals at Bonalba today.

The home side won the toss and elected to field. The visitors opened with Sam Hussani and Simon Muir and the batsmen looked at ease as the set about putting runs on the board. The half century mark was passed quickly as the Intellectuals toiled in the field. Muir was the first to go when he skied a ball from Tanveer Ahmed to hole out to an easy catch for Ric Wadsley.

Spanish Junior Ravi Panchal scored a quick fire 15 before falling to a full toss from Ali Faulkner. That brought Ruble Singh to the crease and the La Manga number 4 cemented his early season form with a fantastic 115 before being bowled by Chris Horne with a few overs left of the allocated overs.

A mini collaspe saw Horne collect 3 wickets in the 40th over as the La Manga batsman looked to hit out, leaving the final score on 243 for 9, with Horne finishing up with the credible figures of 5 for 39.

The Intellectuals faced an uphill task but 14 off the first over raised some eyebrows amongst the spectators. The second over was not as fruitful as Bazar Singh had Stanford caught by Akeesh Panchal and then Ahmed and Wadsley soon followed without troubling the scorers to leave the score at 16 for 3 off 5 overs.

The La Manga bowling attack continued to grab wickets at regular intervals despite stubborn resistance from Horne and MacGarry that helped nudge the batting side past 75 for their sole batting point of the day, but the writing was on the wall for the hosts and the game was ended by Chris Miller who bowled MacGarry with his first ball of the 32cd over to leave the home side all out for 109.Ravi Panchal was the pick of the La Manga bowlers claiming 4 for 6 off just 4 overs.

La Manga got 19 points, ten for the win, 4 batting and 5 bowling points, whilst the Intellectuals acquired 5 points, 4 for the bowling efforts and 1 for their batting.
