Fans were treated to a great day of cricket yesterday as both La Manga and the Intellectuals provided some classic entertainment.
The side from Alicante won the toss and elected to bat first. The composed a competitive total of 213 for 7 from their full over allocation.
Stand outs for the Intellectuals were Wasim Waris with 45, whilst Naveed Anwar also contributed with a very useful 43. The pick of the bowlers was the spinner Akash Panchal, who finished with match figures of 4-58.
After tea, La Manga started purposefully, but were pinned back by another excellent spell of bowling from Wasim Waris, who followed up his seven wicket haul earlier in the season with another five.
However, neither he nor his compatriots could find a way of getting out “Kiwi” Elliot Banks who made an impressive 93 not out in helping his team overtake the Intellectuals total with one wicket to spare in the last over of the game.
A great advert for the development league. The result severely dints the Intellectuals title hopes, but keeps La Manga still on track to go one better than last years runner up spot.
