LA MANGA CONTINUE EARLY SEASON PROMISE

La Manga coninued their early season promise with a comfortable 203 run victory over Madrid. Madrid started well enough and at one point had La Manga at 100 for 5 but a 91 run sixth wicket partnership by Spanish Intrnationals Farhat and Talat swung the game back La Manga´s way.

La Manga went on to compile a score of 258 for 9, meaning 4 batting points for each team. Madrid capitulated when it was their turn to bat and were bowled all out for a paltry 55 runs. With only 10 players Madrid also were deducted 2 points from their total points tally.

As a result of the points deduction Madrid nded up with 2 points and La Manga acquired 19 of the possible 20 available.

In the other game scheduled for Saturday 29th May, Albox were unable to field a side against Valencia Green and consequently forfeited the game. As a result Valencia Green received 17 points and Albox minus 10 points.

Further Match Report on the game from George Wambeek

Cricket  Espana Costa Blanca Cricket League.

Cricket Espana League Division 1, at La Manga Golf Resort in Murcia, took place between Home Team  La Manga CC who were Sponsored by Murcia Villas  and against Madrid CC with Captain George Wambeek winning the toss again and electing to bat first on a sunny and dry wicket after the nights heavy rain in the surrounding areas.

A steady start by Munib and Parker took the score up to 40 before Munib who is normally the big run getter edging a fine nick to the keeper for 7,and to be joined by Garside who made a steady 40 before he was out to a another fine catch by the keeper standing up to the wicket.

There was a good steady partnership of 91 by the two middle order batsmen Farhat and Talat before Talat out LBW with Farhat a good and steady 69 to bring the Final total 258-9 down with La Manga getting 4 batting points, and the teams went in for tea at the SI Bar before the Madrid Innings Started,

As Madrid CC went into bat looking at a fair total to chase, but they came across the Spanish National opening bowlers running at them from both ends and it was a bit hot to handle as the batting started to crumble steadily and only the captain of Madrid stood around for 17 before he was caught.

Iqbal took 5 wickets and was well supported by T Ali and especially Farhat, who with only 3 balls took the last two wickets and giving La Manga a 203 run victory and gaining 19 points.
