MOJACAR FALL SHORT ON RUN CHASE
For the first time in a competitive match this season, Mojacar were put into the field first and despite tight bowling from Beal and J Rose, it was some time before the wicket of La Manga opener Parker (18) was claimed, bringing Riley (129) in to join an already established Brook (53)in what proved to be the determining partnership of the match.
Centurian Riley excelled against the pace balls, while Brook held up the other end with a patient half century. Against the slower bowling, Riley was more circumspect, Craig Cook holding him in check with some crafty and accurate leg spin. With few opportunities in the field La Manga´s total steadily increased when finally wickest started to fall, Riley holing out to Jem Rose off the bowling of Stannard, who also claimed Brook LBW, and Beal picking up the two late wickets of Godsmith and Davies.
La Manga finished on a non insurmountable total of 252 for 5. Once again openers Finch (40) and Woolley (25) gave Mojacar a brisk start putting on 75 for the first wicket in 17 overs, with sharp running. Continued by Beal (37) and Rose (18) but in the middle part of the innings runs became hard to come by. Nonetheless, the Mojacar scoreline was on track with La Manga´s run rate up until the 40th over.
Big hitting from Lewis (33) and Blann (15) brought Mojacar within a chance of victory, however sharp bowling from La Manga medium pacer Ingham cleared up the final Mojacar batsmen, 50 runs short of the required total. Mojacar were all out for 202.
Mojacar´s next league match is the return match v´s Madrid on Sunday 17th June 2007 at La Manga Golf Resort.
