LA MANGA DO THE LEAGUE DOUBLE OVER ALFAS

Costa Blanca Cricket League Played at La Manga.

La Manga CC- 233-9    v    Alfas CC- 75

La Manga CC are still well in the charge of their Costa Blanca cricket league campaign after thrashing an Alfas X1 that was depleted because of some key players not travelling with the Alfas team to La Manga.

This had been one of the most Important games for their club who were already beaten at home by La Manga, and again a clash of these two old clubs in Spain, was eagerly anticipated.

Alfas won the toss and elected to insert La Manga CC in to bat. Lupsom opening the  bowling attack but didn’t look anything like the player who bowled at Alfas and he was replaced after 2 Over’s by Pennick. At the other end, Garry Crompton with his leg breaks bowled well to take 2 wickets in his 9 over’s. P Taylor again bowled well taking 3 wickets, but a good steady start by J Brook, who just come back from a European Tournament for the Spanish Under 17,who made 39, and the other opener Sajid 36 gave La Manga 77 runs for the first wicket. From then on steady batting by Munib 19, as well as Iqbal and Talat ensured a grand total of 233 for 9 in 45 over’s.

As Alfas CC opening batsmen Pennick and Evans got ready to face the fearsome bowling attack of La Manga Bowlers,Talat Ali and Tanveer Iqbal and after only two over’s when Pannick was trying to get away from the bowling of Ali got him self run out by a Junior u17 Brook at Mid on to the delight of the La Manga Team, and especially Joel Brook, who did a Rolley-Polley on the grass to celebrate the run out.

La Manga´s bowlers turned on the screws to get rid of the danger man Crompton and then he was quickly followed by Laundon,Fletcher and Cooper, before a little resistance by Lupson with a few cow shots in desperation.

Young Metcalf with a fine 18 not out was the top scorer for Alfas CC who were all out for 75 runs in 23 over’s. La Manga CC celebrated doing the double over Alfas CC this year. Again all this was down to a great team effort by all.T Iqbals bowling figures were 8-4-8-2 and Talat .Ali´s 8-0-40-4 wickets to make the pick of the bowlers, but credit goes to the whole team.

La Manga CC have their 20/20 in September and Lords and Lady Tavernier’s coming in November. The guest at this is going to be the ex-England Captain Mike Gatting. Any Information please Ring George on 610006783.
