Schools Event

C.E.I.P. San Isidrio school in Los Belones, just 5 minutes from La Manga Club, closed early last Thursday 26th September and invited Neil Brook and his band of young helpers from Phoenix School in San Miguel to demonstrate cricket to 170 bewildered (mainly Spanish) children their parents and the teachers.

What followed was a fantastic 2 hours of fun. Starting with Dave Moore in full umpire attire explaining his role in a small demo with Neil and his team, the morning then moved into full swing as the younger children picked up bats for the first time, smacking the soft ball to all parts of the 2nd playground while the parents formed teams to take on the older children in the main playground and were determined not to be beaten.

While there were not many forward defensive shots to be seen there was some great hitting (the school was cleared at least twice) some aggressive fielding (mainly from the parents) and to the joy of all the victorious team of 5th and 6th years beating Parents Team 2 in the final.

Neil presented the teachers and children 2 sets of kit and the following day cricket was seen being played in the school playground during football lessons!
