LA MANGA 2 BEAT THE INTELLECTUALS

Following on from the first teams success yesterday the La Manga second team followed up with a win over the Intellectuals of Alicante

La Manga 165 all out off 37.4 overs.

Intellectuals 44 all out off 20.5 overs.

A game of three halves – but unfortunately only 1 good and 2 bad.

The Intellectuals’ opening pair of Tim and Tanveer picked up right where they left off in the last match – their opening 8 overs reducing La Manga to 19 for 4 and raising the prospect of low target. But R.Singh had other ideas.

Supported by House (who joined him in the fourteenth over) they had a 52 partnership lasting 10 overs which lowered the Intellectuals’ expectations and, more worryingly, their performance in the field. When Singh finally went in the 24th over on 49, still the Intellectuals couldn’t wrap it up – and runs, especially extras – were let loose across the field.

The Intellectuals finally managed to end it in the 38 over, claiming the wicket of House (who batted solidly for 23 overs for 21 runs), but not before La Manga reached 165 – 59 of which were extras. Best figures were for Tanveer who finished 3 for 18 of 8, although Rahul, Danny and Neil also took 2 apiece.

However, 165 didn’t seem too tough a target. However Mr Singh had, once again, other ideas. This time assisted by Rose, the opening bowlers reduced the Intellectuals to 6 for 25 off their opening spell of 12 overs (Singh 3 for 9 off 6, Rose 3 for 11 off 6). The rest of the batsmen did not fair much better and the Intellectuals fell not only far short of the target, but also a batting point – all out for 44 with only 19 scored with the bat.
