On Sunday the 27th of September the 2nd Introduction to Cricket session took place for children attending Colegio Cardenal Spinola, Madrid, organised in conjunction with the school sports club, Club Deportivo Spinola.
The weather was a perfect sunny 23 C, ideal for the 70 kids including 28 girls, aged 6-12, who attended and the result was an overwhelming success. Despite the first XI having a match in Sonseca, eight volunteers came along to help out, including the club coach Mike Griggs who expertly planned and ran the session which lasted for two hours.
To start things off the parents and children sat attentively and watched a brief demo match while Lewis Clark explained the basic concepts of cricket. The kids were then split into 3 groups by age and went to separate areas where batting, bowling and fielding drills were enthusiastically performed. The newly acquired skills were then put into practice with competitive Kwik Cricket matches which resulted in some exciting finishes.
The parents were delighted with the activity and the kids had a great time. A big thanks to Enrique Fernandez, president of CD Spinola, for supporting the initiative; to all the coaches, especially Mike Griggs, and to Cricket España for providing the equipment.
