KIDS CRICKET CONTINUES IN MADRID

On Sunday the 16th of October Madrid Cricket Club continued with its 2 hour kids cricket sessions at Colegio Cardenal Spinola in the district of Chamartin. Over 30 youngsters from 7 to 13 years of age came along, and with most having attended previous sessions, after a brief welcome chat from Madrid CC Vice President Lewis Clark, the session soon got underway.

The focus of the session was on front foot drives and two handed low and high catches. The kids were divided into two groups according to age and went though some fun fielding and batting drills for the first hour, moving on to Kwik cricket matches during the second half. The fielding drills included volleyball-catch and catching-caterpillar while the batting drills included driving off tees into target areas to score points, and a very popular hitting multiple balls off multiple tees and running around cones until the fielders put the balls back on the tees. The Kwik Cricket matches were keenly contested, with some excellent batting and fielding displays.

Most of the those that attended were Spanish children from Colegio Spinola, though a number of other schools were also represented, including Hastings, Runnymede and the British Council School. A big thanks to the six Madrid CC members who gave up there Sunday morning do some coaching, to the Spinola Sports Club for their continued support and use of the facilities, and to Cricket España for providing the equipment.

Although the weather was perfect for cricket training, with winter just around the corner, we are searching for an indoor pitch to carry on during the winter. Please contact Lewis Clark on lclark@genasys.com if you know of anywhere suitable. We play with rubber wind-balls so anywhere where football or basketball can be played is great for our cricket sessions.
