Around forty young cricketers took part in the first round of the Junior Indoor Cricket league in Murcia last weekend. Three teams will contest the league that will run until May.

Game One was between the Torrevieja youngsters and La Manga Kings. Torrevieja batted first and hit the top score of the day, notching up 73 for 3 from their allocated overs. La Manga’s response was positive from the outset, but in the end they fell short, posting 46 for 6 at the end of play.

Game Two involved Sporting Alfas and Torrevieja. Batting first Torrevieja made 45 for 4. Alfas made light work of the total and knocked off the runs for the loss of just one wicket.


Game Three matched up the junior players of La Manga and Sporting Alfas for the final game. In a thrilling match Alfas batted first and scored 71 for 5. La Manga Kings in response made a valiant effort to chase down the target. In a nailbiting finish the Kings just failed to get over the line, scoring 69 for 6 to fall short by just two runs.

After the first round of matches, and with the bonus points for batting and bowling added Alfas stand top of the league with 31 points. Torrevieja lie second with 22 points and in third spot at the moment are La Manga Kings with 14 points.
