INTELLECTUALS MAN-OF-THE-MATCH: LANE (ERIC) MATTA
Catches win matches!
And if the team had taken all its catches as Lane did on the two occasions he was called upon, the target might well have been 50 runs less and league-winning victory in the bag. Even though a start delay allowed the Intellectuals to get in some extra catching practise in before the start it seems it did little to help when play began – with some ten catches going begging.
Nevertheless, the Intellectuals did put in a good effort to run up the score, in the end falling just 8 runs short; Tim (83no), Ismail (44), Husnain (23) and Noman (18) all playing their part in the run chase. Sadly the Skip and President with 5 overs to go and 36 required missed out on making it a fairy-tale ending by jointly knocking off the score to win the match.
But all credit to Levante who managed to ball the final overs with considerable economy. And all credit to Lane for his two excellent catches and an impressive and enthusiastic all-round fielding performance.
