After months of negotiations with Bonalba Resort the Intellectuals of Alicante were finally given permission to put down a permanent wicket at their home base and the conversion is now complete.
Wicket installation time-line:
3 April – Preparatory meeting with officials of Bonalba
5 April – Confirmation of installation requirements
8 April – Work began with the excavation of the wicket track
10 April – Matting and shock-pad underlay ordered (delivery 17 April)
12 April – Unbound under-surface (scalpings etc.) put in place and prepared.
17/18 April – Final stage of the installation – shock-pad underlay and matting fitted.
The wicket is all set to be christened in the Intellectual´s opening league fixture against Levante “B” on Sunday May 26th.
The club, one of the oldest in Spanish Cricket have regular tourists to visit, which last season included Heslington CC and East India Cricket Club.
They also tour themselves and in 2018 went to Bretagne in France were they recorded their first tour win in eight years.
