INDOOR CRICKET IN TORREVIEJA
Bad weather did not dampen the cricketers spirits with the Torry Cup moving indoors when Torrevieja played local rivals San Fulgencio last week. The council were kind enough to allocate the main gym in the sports centre for cricket and local councillors even tried their hand at a bat and a ball before the main event-a 15 overs a side match between Torreveija and San Fulgencio.
Torry proved too strong for their local rivals, and displayed excellent fielding skills, not dropping a catch on their way to a famous victory and another trophy. On the day, the cricket club were also given permission to use the local rugby pitch for forthcoming matches, when not being used by Torreveija Rugby Club.
Press and local Tv were on hand to cover the event and Torreveija even managed to pick up two new players as a result of the exposure the event had been given in the media over the last week or so. Both Torreveija and San Fulgencio can look forward to next season with a great deal of anticipation, and as the curtain closed on their 2009 campaigns both teams were left to reflect on what positive strides they had both made over this last year.
