HER WORLD CRICKET TOUR – INTERVIEW WITH CATH MORRETTI

Cath Moretti’s been our Venue Manager Extraordinaire here at ICC T20 World Qualifiers Europe this week (plus amazing housemate & general good egg!)
After moving to Spain a year ago Cath’s already played for the country as ‘keeper! She’d only played one year of hardball in England having taken up softball cricket at a Ladies Prosecco Night at Southport & Birkdale.
“I’d never played cricket before,” Cath says. “But I’m very sporty from softball in school.”
She moved to Spain last year: “And I was just like: ‘That’s it, there goes my cricket’ until I realised there were some ladies who practised in Cartama.
“I played a tournament, they saw me when I was practising then I got picked into playing as wicketkeeper for Spain under the guise of Spanish Cricket Academy. I was asked when I was there would I like to volunteer & here we are with a fabulous bunch of people.”
A former dementia nurse, Cath brings the fun, common sense & energy – & did I mention energy, energy, energy!
She loves being Venue Manager – & she’s a jolly great one, too: “I feel really inspired & like I’ve found a new calling. I am a very bubbly person & I do have a lot of energy & sometimes that rubs off on people.”
What do you actually have to do in the role? “It involves having to have your eye over all areas of the venue, what the team players, our volunteers.
“And I’ve got to keep an eye on the venue, just the little things like toilets, loo roll & hand towels, making sure there’s bins out there, the spectators are looked after – we’ve got to cast an eye over everything as a whole.”
Her background brings a world of transferable skills: “You’ve got to see the big picture as a nurse, you’ve got to have your wits about you & be observant & make sure you know where every single resident is all the time.”
Being a nurse brings a challenge here – Cath’s used to being a first responder! “What I find hard at this point is if someone gets injured I’ve got to rope myself back not running on.”
Always in the action, making an awesome difference! Absolutely love this woman – thank you so much, Cath!
