Heartbreak for Spain as they just fell short by 6 runs in a nailbiting game against one of the pre-tournament favourites, Italy
For the second year running Spain have been on the wrong end of close games in ICC Europe Torneos in the Isle of Man, last year it was Germany and France and now Italy have snatched victory away from La Seleccion.
The bowling attack of Spain again lived up to its reputation and bowled out an Italian side that had scored 287 against Germany yesterday for just 89.Pace bowler Ben Girling took 3-22 and he was well supported by La Manga´s Ravi Panchal who bagged 3 wickets for just 16 runs.
Spain started their chase cautiously and looked well place in the 20th over with the score on 50-4. A combination of some good bowling and a middle order batting collapse saw the Spaniards just fall short by 6 runs of taking another notable associate scalp.
Spain have no match tommorrow and Saturday isa rest day, before the play against Germany on Sunday at the Vagabonds ground.

Italy have won their second match at the European Under-19 Division Two Championship in the Isle of Man after Spain collapsed after they were cruising to a seemingly straightforward victory.
After yesterday’s big score against Germany, Italy found the going a little tougher against the Spanish bowling attack. The first two wickets fell with the score on 7, before a 25 run partnership for the third wicket.
From then on, it was a procession of wickets. Yesterday’s big scorer Roshendra Abeywickrama was fourth out having scored just 8, and Italy found themselves in trouble on 62-9, before a 27 run partnership for the last wicket took them to 89 all out in 28.1 overs.
Only two batsmen made double figures for Italy, with extras the top scorer with 28. Ben Girling and Ravi Panchal both took three wickets.
In reply, despite losing both openers for ducks, Spain initially looked to be cruising on 49-3. But captain Joel Brook’s dismissal just after the lunch interval sparked something of a collapse, and Spain found themselves bowled out for 83 to lose by 6 runs.
