GRANADA CC V SEVILLA CC
Conditions were sunny and warm to start with a stiff breeze. Sevilla CC won the toss and asked GCC to bat first.
The batting pair of Paul and Aakash made a steady start. Sevilla took advantage of a slow outfield by setting a close field and good tight bowling from Jisan and Saravanan restricted the scoring early on.
Paul fell in the 4th over for 7 runs, bowled to a quick ball moving off the seam. In came Nico who set off with a great drive but sadly another great ball from Saravanan condemned Nico to the same fate as Paul bowled with no further runs.
In came the in form Stan, upping the run rate from 2.5 to 3.5 before the 9th over when an unexpected shot from Aakash resulted in a tidy catch.
Todd came to the crease with intentions clear, as a potential match turning moment saw Stan already on 26 was ran out by super speedy Derek with a direct hit. A change of bowlers eased the pace but still found line and length which led to Todd being caught trying to get the scoreboard moving as he always does but again looking solid.
Next two to bat Sebin and Gary knew at 60 for 6 off 20 overs that they would need to dig in and add to the total. Sebin went about his business carefully with a wide range of shots.
A good partnership built with 90 runs added seeing Gary score fairly quickly with some good running with Sebin. But with GCC looking to push on further, Sebin was clean bowled by returning pace bowlers Jisan for a top score of 46. Out came Ricky to score 14 off as many balls before being run out. Gary highest score of the season and his GCC career then ended on 43.
With only a few balls remaining a quick scramble for a few runs from Ribin and Stuart helped GCC reach a defendable total of 182. Sevilla bowlers Jisan 3 wickets and Saravanan 2 did the damage with 3 run outs and very little extras.
By the afternoon the outfield had hardened, and the wind had got up. GCC opened the bowling with Todd and Stuart. Todd bowled well with 3 overs for just 10 runs but Sevilla still put on 82 for the first wicket. Aakash eventually broke the partnership, but Anik was not impressed with the LBW decision against him. A few dropped catches had cost GCC until now, but they were intent on applying the pressure.
Alex came in for Sevilla and carried on the good work in supporting Colin who looked comfortable at the crease. Sevilla had amassed 147 for 1 until a rejuvenated Stuart, on at the other end showed some class and bowled Colin for an impressive 79. Alex continued to see the ball well but Stuart was up for the battle taking more wickets to create some nerves in the Sevilla middle order. Some tight bowling from Ricky and Sebin restricted Sevilla further.
A quick thinking stumping from Nico gave Stuart his 4th wicket with final figures of 4-42 at the end of his second spell. Todd D also impressed with a spell of 0-25 off 7 overs, With the game looking tense at 172-7 Derek and big hitting Aakasa knuckled down and gradually picked off the runs with 183 off 32 overs. Granada CC and Sevilla CC can be proud of a fantastic match playing out a friendly but competitive days cricket.
