Cricket, the social-distancing sport par excellence returned to Madrid last Sunday with a women’s training session and practice match at Colegio Los Olmos.
Training with semi-hard balls, the session started with fielding and batting drills with the more experienced players then turning their arm over for the first time since confinement.
The players hands were disinfected after every drill and distancing was maintained between players. For the second half of the session a short match was played between team-María and team-Darshita.
Darshita won the toss and elected to bat second but after some hard hitting from newbie Sofie, team-María set a target of nearly 6 per over and the chase never looked on though some aerial shots by the skipper in the last over closed the gap and had the fielding team scampering around the court to cling to victory.
The fielding was excellent on both sides with some fine catches being taken.
