EXTRACT FROM EULOGY

Gary was a more than useful all-round cricketer and became a popular, well-respected umpire when he

finally retired from playing. He was also Chairman of La Manga Cricket Club for a few years.

But it was his zany sense of humour and enthusiasm for the great game of cricket that Gary will be remembered. He was a huge influence in the dressing room, possessing a cricketing brain honed over many years of playing experience. He was a winner but not at any cost. Gary’s fair sense of play was evident well before the Cricket of Spirit was written and inserted as a preamble to the Laws of Cricket. Perhaps it was this sportsmanship that strongly influenced his umpiring technique which was always well received by the players with whom he had a great rapport..
