MATCH REPORT LA MANGA CC VERSUS SAN FULGENCIO CC 21-11-2009
Saturday, 21st of November marked another step on the journey of San Fulgencio Cricket Club. The club have now progressed from its early days, when it played on the La Marina Market site with a handful of young players to a fully fledged Cricket Espana league club with almost twenty players and officials on its books.
To add to this the club has just landed its first sponsorship deal with www.flightm8.com sponsoring the team shirts. To mark the sponsorship deal San Fulgencio played the prestigious La Manga cricket club in their new kit in a friendly match.
San Fulgencio`s captain, “big hitting” Bob Norton won the toss and asked the hosts to bat. La Manga, who were fielding Junior and Senior Spanish internationals in their side put the inexperienced Fulgencio bowling to the sword and La Manga ended up with a challenging total of well over 200 off their allocated 40 overs.
After a twenty minute break it was time for San Fulgencio to show their batting prowess. Hopes were high with the in form Bob Norton and Harry Marshall opening the batting, but both fell cheaply and the La Manga bowling attack continued to take wickets at frequent intervals. Fulgencio were eventually all out for a total in the mid sixties.
On a day like this the result was secondary and club chairman and coach Jon Algar could look back with pleasure at the inroads the club have made and look forward in anticipation to a bright future for the newest club to join the Cricket Espana fraternity.
