HISTORY MADE IN TARRAGONA
History was made on the 13th of September when four teams played a 20/20 tournament at the new ground in Tarragona. The teams used this as a warm up for the La Manga 20/20 tournament starting on the 19th of September that will include an unprecedented 12 Spanish teams.
The 4 teams who participated in the tournament were Barcelona Cricket Club, Badalona CricketClub, Shaheen Cricket Club and Bangal Tigers Cricket Club. All four will participate in La Manga and will be among the favourites to win the trophy, that is currently held by Barcelona CC.
The first match was played between Barcelona and Badalona. Badalona batted first and scored 88 runs in their allocated 20 overs. Barcelona never really had a problem reaching this target and won the match in the 12th over with 7 wickets to spare.
The second match saw Shaheen play the Bengal Club. A strong Shahen batted first and accumulated a massive score of 202 off their 20 overs. Bengal Tigers were never in contention and were scuttled out for 86, giving Shaheen an 116 run victory.
The final saw Shaheen and Barcelona go head to head. Shaheen won the toss and elected to bat. A total of 159 for 9 was reached thanks to major contributions from Yaseen, Qesar, Ali and Babar. Barcelona set about their task aggressively and some huge sixes from Saqar and great support from Khalid saw Barcelona edge home. The finally passed the 159 mark in the 17th over and victory went to the current 20/20 champions.
