COPA CIUDAD DE BARCELONA
Catalunya Cricket club Under 19 team grabs the final of the COPA CIUDAD DE BARCELONA.
The first ever junior tournament of cricket played at Barcelona. Catalunya Cricket Club alongwith the union esportiva catalane de clubs de cricket organized this tournament with help of the Ayuntamiento of Barcelona, and supported by the Secretaria General de Esports Generalitat de Catalunya( the Government of Catalunya) and Casa Asia.
The senior teams also took part in this tournament as WOODCUTTERS a Scottish club played two matches against Catalunya cricket club and Cornella cricket club, both Catalan clubs were too strong for the woodcutters and they lost both the matches with a big difference.
The junior tournament started on Thursday 22nd of September, in which junior teams Catalunya cc, Girona cc, Santa Coloma cc, Cornella cc and Ali youngsters took part. All the teams played well, it was very nice to see the young talent in this region. Many youngsters played a very good cricket and marked their names, but Vinod, sachin, jassi, Ezaz, Gurmeet, Kuldeep lal, Gurpreet Singh sunny were brilliant, as they also were awarded vinod as best batsman of the tournament, Jassi Best bowler of the tournament and kuldeep lal as man of series for his excellent performance.
After playing the league matches Catalunya cricket club and Girona cricket club played the final match on Sunday 25th September. Girona cc won the toss and elected to bat, but as some early loss of the important wickets as Vinod, girona cc could not make a good partnership and were restricted to 84 runs in a 16 over match. In response Catalunya cc started well , and chased the score in the 14th over of the match, at some moments the match turned on the girona cc side, but soon after the Catalunya boys controlled the match in their favour as gurmeet stepped in and played some excellent shots, kuldeep lal gave him the company until the winning shot of the match, Gurmeet was awarded as the man of the match of the final match.
In the presentation ceremony, Mr. Robert Masih Nahar the director of Catalunya cricket appreciated all the clubs and youngsters who took, part in the tournament, he also thanked to the staff and specially Mr. Armghan Khan, Mr. Afzal Mohammad and Mr. Adnan Malik for their efforts to make this tournament a very successful tournament.
Later he added that this is the beginning of the junior cricket in Catalunya, we will try our best to take the junior and senior cricket to a very good level, and he said we are proud of our boys and asked them to keep working hard.
Mr. Robert Masih Nahar and Mr. Khalid Shabaz Akhtar presented the prizes to winners and runners ups, as the trophies were presented by Mr. Armghan Khan and Mr. Afzal Mohammad, later the president of the union of the clubs Mr. Khalid Shabaz Akhtar also appreciated all the youngsters and assured them the further progress for the junior cricket in Catalunya.
