On Friday the 27th of November around 140 kids aged 14 from “IES Emperatriz María de Austria” secondary school took part in an Introduction To Cricket Day.
Five 50 minute sessions were run from 9:30 am till 2:30 pm, with each class learning the basics of batting, bowling and fielding. Four members of Madrid CC ran the activities, most of which were carried at in English at the request of the school.

Despite no previous experience of the sport, the teenagers listened attentively and went about learning the different cricket drills enthusiastically. The weather was warm and sunny, perfect for cricket, as so often is the case in Spain and the activity was carried out in the school playground, demonstrating that cricket can be played almost anywhere.
The feedback from the teachers and kids was overwhelmingly positive and showed once again a latent demand for a bat and ball sport in Spain. A big thanks to Cricket España for providing the equipment.
