Madrid Stars inflicted a second league defeat on the current champions Sporting Alfas today and in the process consolidated their position at the top of the ECCL Premiership.
The visitors won the toss and elected to put the home side into bat on a sunny day at the Woodbridge Oval. Opener Phil Pennick was in fine form and top scored with 80 as his team posted a score of 235 all out.
Spanish international Faran Afzal also had a good day with the bat, adding 67 to the Alfas total. For the Stars T Azam was the pick of the bowlers bagging three wickets for just 33 runs.
The Stars were indebted to their opener and club president Rizwan Shah who put his side on the road to victory with a sparkling 82.
His team finally passed the alfas score with four wickets to spare to give the Stars maximum points from the game and a considerable lead at the top of the ECCL Premiership table.
Madrid Stars 237 for 6 beat Sporting Alfas 235 all out by 4 wickets.
