After two frustrating trips to the East Coast for Madrid Cricket Club that had ended in last minute cancellations, it was third time lucky for the team from the capital, as they got a full weekend of cricket with four T20´s over the Saturday and Sunday.
The results on the Saturday both went the way of the home side. In match one Madrid batted first and scored 125 for 8. The evergreen Mark Nichols was the top scorer for his team, with 35 runs, whilst Faran Afzal took two wickets for just 21 runs.
In response, Alfas did not have things all their own way as they lost four wickets and required fourteen overs to chase down the total. Christian Munoz Mills crafted a fine half century, whilst Galileo Finlayson bowled extremely well for Madrid to end with figures of two wicket for ten runs from his four overs.
Game two saw Alfas bat first and put a sizeable total of 225 for 6 on the scoreboard. Munoz Mills was amongst the runs again with a fine century, whilst Jamsaid Ahmed and Basharat Ali both scored 21 each in an unbeaten seventh wicket partnership that elevated the score over the 200 mark.
Madrid batted pluckily, and frustrated the Alfas bowlers. The innings ended with the Madrid score on 97 for 6. Finlayson contributed with the bat this time for the travellers, scoring 26 runs, whilst Kyle Roper took three of the six Madrid wickets to fall.
Matches three and four take place tomorrow, when Madrid will hope for a better end product from the two games.
