Sporting Alfas Cricket Club Sporting Alfas 1st X1 131 for 3 beat Lenches C C 130 for 10

On a cloudy fresh morning at the Woodbridge Oval Sporting Alfas CC entertained another cricket tour this time from the Midlands and our drinking and cricketing friends were Lenches CC.

The fact they all turned up straight from the previous night and ordered 11pints at 12 midday showed their strengths off early. Sporting Alfas CC welcomed back Pennick and Afzal back in the side while missing four others on Spanish duties ,it was a bad toss too lose and we ended up in the field. Carrying on with the promising youth for the year saw Kieran Perman and Tyler Brown open the bowling and giving very little away.

Matt Prenough for the opositon punished any width with the odd four per over. With the introduction of the old guard Afzal and Pennick runs dried up and wickets started to fall, At drinks Lenches CC were 66/5. The skipper then decided to give everyone a run out including himself.

Lenches never really got going and struggled to 130 all out, with Locke claiming 5/2 at the death and Afzal 2 wickets plus a run out with a direct hit from point. As always a tea was laid on for our cricket tourists here in Spain , and with a low total to chase Sporting Alfas Cricket Club reversed the batting line up with Laundon and Ben Fetcher opening the batting .

Laundon raced to 48 off the opening in a 70 run partnership before top edging one for a simple catch. In came one of our new players Damien Taylor/Locke the third, who managed to be dropped off all his first 3 balls he faced.

Club Captain Fletcher carried on to get the team close to the finish line with a fine 50 not out before retiring. Muhammad and Afzal came and went quickly before Tyler Hogan Brown faced one ball which went for four to win the game . For Lenches, A White produced a very good opening spell of five overs for just 12 runs, but sadly, he was not supported by his team.

A great day was had by all and a few after drinks and chats were carried on in the club house .
Next week see our old friends Nomads CC play Friday through to Monday, all 1 pm starts with bar facilities available all day.
