PUERTO ZALMI CHAMPIONS OF THE RECENT VALENCIA AND MADRID TAPEBALL TOURNAMENTS

It has been a great few days for Puerto Zalmi Cricket Club. At the end of May they won the inaugural Cricket Espana Tapeball Competion and this weekend they travelled to Madrid and won the tapeball tournament there.

The Valencia competition was played on a part of the old Formula One track from when the city hosted an event in the motor world between 2008 and 2012. Six teams particpated in the event with the clubs divided into two groups of three.

Inclement weather created a late start and reduced some of the matches to just four overs per side. Badshah CC and Punjab XI got eliminated from the competition at the group stages leaving Mislata to play Valencia Sultans and Ayora Qalanders to match up against Puerto Zalmi in the semi final matches.

Mislata and Zalmi emerged victorious from those matches and in a competitive final Zalmi edged out Mislata to be crowned champions, overturning the Group stage loss that Mislata had inflicted on them in the Group stage.

A week later three of the teams travelled to Madrid to play a ten team tournament there which included teams from the Basque region and other areas of Spain. Valencia Sultans did not make the final cut but Ayora Qalanders and Puerto Zalmi did. Once again Zalmi showed the experience in pressure matches and came away with the trophy.
