Last weekend Menorca CC welcomed Band of Brothers Cricket Club to the island for two matches of forty overs on the Saturday and Sunday.
The visitors, who were founded in Kent in 1858, are recognised as the third oldest wandering club, with any home matches they have played at Torry Hill and Belmont House.
Match one saw the hosts take to the field and restrict Band of Brothers to 187 for 9 from their allocated overs. Simon Cotton was the pick of the Menorcan bowlers, bagging three wickets for just 33 runs.
In reply Menorca paced their run chase to perfection coming home with two balls to spare. Will Johnson top scored for the islanders with 44, whilst Pollington took three wickets in the defeated cause for the English side.
Band of Brothers gained their revenge the following day with a convincing victory. Again batting first, they accrued 274 for 4 in their innings. A century for N Roberts and a half century for A Pask set the platform for the big total.
The response from Menorca was plucky but they ended their innings on 151 for nine, some 124 runs short of victory. A gutsy innings from J Bryne, who scored 41, before retiring hurt was the highlight of the Menorca innings.
Next week brings Menorca, Ibiza and Mallorca together for the annual Balearic Cup. Best wishes go to all three teams participating in the annual event that is the biggest fixture on all the three clubs cricketing calendar.
