MCC to tour Spain & Gibraltar
Date released: 19 October 2010
Former Somerset batsman Nick Folland captains an MCC squad on their six match tour to Spain & Gibraltar in October.
MCC, under the guidance of Tour Manager and former Hampshire bowler Kevin Emery, play two fixtures against the full Spain side in La Manga.
‘YC’ Andrew Clarke is part of the touring party
The tour then continues with a fixture against the AEC Club Champions, Catalunia CC, in Alfas.
The trip concludes with three fixtures in Gibraltar – two against Gibraltar and one against a Gibraltar Select XI.
The touring squad is made up largely of club cricketers and also includes MCC Young Cricketer Andrew Clarke, who has just finished his second season as a Young Cricketer.
Umpire Brian Whitehead and scorer Andy Scarlett complete the touring party, who will be giving a coaching session with the Spain Women’s squad during the tour.
MCC Touring Programme
MCC plays over 500 matches a year at different standards
As part of its active playing programme, which involves its teams playing around 500 matches a year, MCC undertakes numerous overseas tours.
In planning these trips, MCC works closely with the International Cricket Council.
This helps to maximise the tours’ effectiveness in increasing cricket’s international appeal and assisting national teams’ move towards one-day international or even Test status.
