Madrid’s newly formed women’s team played their 1st competitive matches last weekend in La Manga at the international Women’s Cricket Festival. The team had an interesting blend of youth and experience that included a 12-year-old wicket keeper, a 14-year-old opening bowler and Spain’s opening batter. To make up the numbers Davida from Germany kindly joined the squad.
We surprisingly won 3 out of 4 games in the group stage before narrowly losing to a very good Wanstead team in the semi-finals, with our total being reached with just 3 balls to spare. Wanstead went on to win the tournament with a comfortable victory in the final.
The women’s team train each Friday at La Elipa from 6-8pm and are always looking for new players, with or without experience. A big thanks to the municipality of Madrid for their support and Grizzly Bear Sports for supplying the shirts.
