JOHN JONES FUN DAY AT LA MANGA

Following the recent passing of John Jones, La Manga Cricket Club committee arranged a “John Jones Fun Day” in memory of him, which was also in support of MABS and the cricket club.

This took place at La Manga cricket ground on 16th June and was based on a UK “Fete” come cricket match where there were stalls including MABS, face painting/tattoos, mosaic ornaments, Barmy Army memorabilia, English sweets and homemade cakes.

There was also a bouncy castle, an all day BBQ and a family boules competition organised and run by John’s wife, Lyn Jones.

Neil Brook organised a youth limited overs match and La Manga youth coaches taught the younger ones how the game is played.

The afternoon consisted of a four team 6 a side cricket match organised by George Wambeek on a round robin format. The teams were made up of players from the youth teams, Torrevieja and La Manga players. All teams took the competition in the spirit it was intended, with the “pink team” (wearing pink wigs and holding a can of beer) making it to the final where they came runners up.

The committee would like to thank everyone who supported this event, especially La Manga Resort staff who prepared the ground and ensured tables, chairs and umbrellas were available.

Special thanks go to Dave and Marg Moore for their efforts in getting this event off the ground and all their hard work in making this a successful day, which hopefully will become an annual event.

We all feel John, being a fun person, was with us in spirit and enjoyed his day.
