Sporting Alfas CC
Won VCK 168-10 SACC 171-1
Valeranga came to the Woodbridge Oval, won the toss and had a bat. SACC thought that maybe the Norse Gods felt unkindly towards our seaside village and rape and pillage would be the order off the day as VCK reached 141 before losing the first wicket.
Massive mistake, because what happened in the next 6 over’s was truly a story to be told by our grandparents!. After giving the ball to Crompton, Skipper Laundon spotted a chink in the armour of the visitors and decided that leg spin both ends might slow the score rate and give SACC a fighting chance in what was surely going to be a huge VCK total, great decision as Spencer taking 5 – 1 and Crompton 4 – 22 stopped VCK in their tracks 168 all out, an amazing turnaround.
Howe and Spencer, as usual, walked out to face a young fierce attack, both bowlers playing for Norway’ s under 19 side. Neither SACC batsmen fancied running and mesmerized the visitors in what can only be described as a batting massacre, Spencer striking the ball to all corners reaching 109 off 35 balls his total only included 1×6 but 24 x 4’s an amazing feat.
Howe fell for 27 and Crompton watched the Spencer onslaught finishing on 15 no. Spencer easily the man of the match finished on 109no and 5 wkts for 1 run.
SACC would like to thank VCK for their terrific attitude throughout the match.
Lets hope they can return next year.
Yet again a great day at the Oval enjoyed by the many regular supporters and a few new faces.
Sporting Alfas Cricket Club Sporting Alfas 2nd X1 v Montenotte on Sat 09 Apr 2011 at 1-00
Match was Drawn Losing Draw
Montenotte produced an excellent all round performance in this high scoring game.
Batting first they posted a very respectable 321-5 at the end of their 40 overs.
They were helped by somewhat wayward bowling and poor catching from SACC, with only Cowley 2-42 and Dawes 2-62 providing any brake on the scoring rate.
Dugdale with 90, Bowry 64 not out, and a very quick a breezy 54 from Balasubrarman provided the backbone to the Montenotte innings.
In reply, Jack Hirsh batted superbly for an an excellent 111 and was supported well by Dawes 41, McKinstry 36, Marriner 25, Cooper 28, and Smith 24 but the run rate always looked too high to maintain.
In the end SACC ended on 296-7, a very creditable chase. Dugdale 3-43 was the pick of the Montenotte bowlers and definitely overall man-of-the-match!
With over 600 runs scored and the match played in a tremendously sporting spirit this was a result where cricket was the winner! Congratulations to all who took part

Sporting Alfas Cricket Club Lost MCC 1X 277 SACC 276
The MCC tourists returned to the Woodbridge Oval for the bi-annual match with a strong minor counties packed side.
After a victory at La Manga they invited SACC to set a total. Spanish internationals Spencer and Munoz got the home side off to a steady start 50 coming up in the 12th over and the score reaching 86 before Spencer(42) played around one from Sameer, Ali joined Munoz and gave the MCC bowlers plenty of respect, hitting 13 singles in his 33 run total.
Crompton joined the Spanish junior captain, and took the score to 163 before a poor call had Munoz(72) run out. Pennick took over and looked in good nick on his season opener with the 1st team, pushing the ball into the unmanned areas and keeping the in form Crompton on strike, the pair took the total to 227 before Pennick (8) holed out.
Fletcher and Crompton only added 9 before Crompton departed on 65. Laundon(12) and Fletcher(33) added 40 more before Laundon was adjudged LBW off the penultimate ball off the innings, 276 – 8.
MCC openers Perkins and Sanveer went about the job with a confidence inspired by the knowledge of the depth of batting to follow. Reaching 49 from the first 7 overs before Perkins was well caught at cover by Crompton, the bowling of Taylor enticing the downfall.
Ex Nottinghamshire player, J Wileman joined Sanveer and made the SACC bowlers look ordinary, taking their time and enjoying the quick out-field and sunshine the home club relish in on most weekends.
The pair taking the score to 213 before Sanveer on 103 got an unplayable delivery from the newly introduced Fletcher, edging to Ali behind the stumps. Patel walked to the crease and looked in good nick, stopping Wileman(96) reaching his century by spanking 33 in quick time.
The MCC side winning in the 36th over.
SACC look forwards to the next visit by the MCC in 2013 and hope the game will be as entertaining and spirited as this encounter.
Harrow School are next weeks visitors, match starts at 1pm
